EDUCATION THROUGH THE ARTS
Turning Over Your Own Hourglass
Turning Over Your Hourglass is a 45-minute, theater-based soul-work session for women—especially women of color and women 50+—who are ready to stop dwelling on the past and live fully in the present. Through story, song, gentle chair and waist movement, and circle sharing, participants honor their lineage, reclaim their bodies, and “turn over the hourglass” of their lives instead of believing time has run out. Created and facilitated by Rose Weaver, the workshop celebrates a century of Black history and women’s wisdom while challenging ageism, shame, and invisibility. Women leave with simple practices, powerful affirmations, and renewed courage to say: “My name is ----, and this woman is not done.”

For me, turning over the hourglass meant embracing three practices:
01. MOVEMENT AS KINDNESS
Yoga, walking, and gentle stretching keep me grounded. Movement is no longer punishment; it’s how I inhabit my life.
02. REST AS RENEWAL
Deep, guilt-free rest restores memory, mood, and resilience. Going to bed early is no longer “checking out”—it’s checking in with tomorrow’s self.
03. JOY AS FUEL
Laughter, music, and meaningful connection feed vitality. When I sing, teach, or dance with other women rediscovering themselves, I’m not clinging to youth—I’m living my “now.”
